The Vagus Nerve is the longest cranial nerve in your body, running from base of skull down to your stomach. With vagal nerves being part of our nervous system, they play a huge part in regulating stress, digestion, movement, immune function, heart rate, and more.
When our Vagus Nerve is not functioning properly, we get stuck in fight or flight mode instead of rest and digest - which can be tolling on our body and mind in various ways. Ways that may include but are not limited to experiencing anxiety, poor sleep, brain fog, abdominal discomfort, inflammation, severe fatigue, heart rate fluctuations, and other draining symptoms.
What is one small way we can we make sure our Vagus Nerve is functioning properly? Stimulate it!
We personally like to stimulate ours with aromatherapy, specifically Sweet Orange, Lime, Roman Chamomile, Clove and Frankincense Carterii essential oils.
These essential oils help stimulate our olfactory system, which boosts the parasympathetic nervous system.
Apply the oil behind ears, on wrists, sides of neck, ankles and or temples and massage gently, stimulating the vagus nerve. Breathing deeply (in 4, out 8) while doing so and/or humming is recommended.
Lightly pulling on the ears in all directions is another helpful way to stimulate after massaging behind them.
This is not medical advice.
